FORUM 02

"Design adds value faster than it adds costs."

- Joel Spolsky, web programmer, writer, and creator of Trello.

Sometimes we heard people say, "why should I pay for design? ANYONE can design..."

The idea of design is always being narrowed down with statements saying that design is simply an action that ANYONE can do.

How do we, as designers can overcome that?

From what I experienced throughout the semesters as well as the internship, designers existed for them to help people to be able to live with more comfort and efficiency. There are cases where friends or relatives asked to design something and they want it for free or in a low-priced payment. Here, the problem is different kinds of works or designs require different times for it to be done, therefore payment will be different as well. Not only payment but different designers also have their own manual or principal. As designers, we can overcome that by having positive thoughts while accepting their saying of “anyone can design”. And what we can do is to show them and prove that not everyone can design, because there’s always a certain limitation in every person's mind.
