TUTORIAL (6 APRIL)

The main topic I chose is 'photographs'. The issue that I found during my research is about professional or the 'popular' photographer posting their photographs on a social media platform called Instagram. Not only professional photographers but 'unpopular' photographers (such as people who just started photography) also posted their artworks on this social media platform. But the number of audiences for both of them is so much different from the ratio of 4:1 (popular:unpopular). The reason why is because professional or popular photographers have these verified icons in their profile for this social media platform where they can boost up the number of the audiences with the help of that icon.

From the point of view of the audiences, they see the photographs through their display screen and each of them has different kinds of media for them to see the photos. This leads for a photograph to be seen in different colors and feelings because even when we see the same photograph with different colors there is a different feeling into it. So, sometimes people prefer to go to photography exhibitions to see the photograph directly and enjoy it to the fullest.

When we see photographs, we see it using our eyes and it transfers into our brain then our heart. By seeing a single photo, we observe every element inside the photograph full of details.  We try to grasp the stories and feelings the photographer shares through his/her photographs.

In this case, usually, photography exhibition costs quite a fortune especially for people who just start out in this field because they need to print the photographs out, rent a studio, and etc. For professional and popular photographers they were able to hold an exhibition thanks to the sponsorship they were given.

(IDEA)

Therefore, I would like to create a place where people with untold stories would like to share them with people through photographs. The photographs taken don't have to be taken with an expensive camera or phone. It can be taken with whatever media they have as long as it can take photos. A place that welcomes everyone who has stories to share through photographs. People would be able to exhibit their photographs without worrying about how other people see their works. (In Instagram, people see through comments and likes) Photographs will be printed in the same quality and they will be shown through the same digital display to let audiences feel and experience the same quality of works.

(MEDIA)

For the medium itself, I was thinking of the rotating "racks" to display the printed photographs. There will be different kinds of "racks" corresponding to different kinds of topics.

REFLECTIONS

This week I have to dig deeper into the issues that I have chosen last week and bring the ideas out of them. After the tutorial with the tutors, my point of view has been broadened. Therefore, leading me to explore more and research more about my topic, issues, and ideas.
