WEEK 16 - FINAL PRESENTATION

REFLECTIONS

After presenting the project to the reviewers, I got the comments from Ms Norji and Mr Ashraf. Regarding the medium, Mr Ashraf commented on the structure and mechanisms of the rotating rack since it is a two floors exhibition. So, based on these comments, I will work on upgrading the medium as I start working on the interior design.

Regarding the site, Ms Norji commented on the connection between my project and the site chosen. Since my medium looks "futuristic" with the chosen material for the medium itself. Meanwhile, my chosen site is an old building with materials used from the past. So she expected me to have a site with building materials like steel. It is not allowed for me to have an old historic exterior and then suddenly I have this very futuristic interior. Therefore, I need to work on how do I connect the building to the interior. From Mr Ashraf, he commented on doing research regarding the building do(s) and don't(s) for the wall or floor demolitions.

Regarding the programming, Ms Norji commented to find the value behind the programming, having a program that could help photographers or certain people to earn money from it. She also commented to have other initiatives not only for the users but also selective people from a certain community. From Mr Ashraf, he suggested a program to have a darkroom for SLR film printing for those who have SLR cameras. He also asked me whether I will have a permanent exhibition for 3 to 6 months in the space other than the rotating rack exhibition that will have each topic exhibited for two weeks. In that case, I will need to consider having it other than the one in the library and archives.

PROJECT STRATEGY

The project strategy is to have a space that could give advantages to both business owners and their users. The business owners include the exhibition curator, librarian, archivist, invited guest speakers, and photographers. Other than that, having people interact with each other by having conversations, emphasize with each other through the photographs.

For the programming, the programs will be planned and made for users to be able to experience it without coming inside the space itself during this pandemic. For example, from the commercial area, having people to be able to print their photos just by ordering the request through a specific form given. They can pick up the printed photographs through a "locker" prepared in front of the entrance easily and without any close contact with anyone.

DESIGN APPROACH

Having a combination of old and modern materials used inside the space. Making good use of the materials available around the site for sustainability, also the scraped materials of making a camera as building materials. Creating an interior design where people could feel both comfortable and safe.
